Ho vinto! - ‘I won!’

Mi riferisco al giveaway organizzato da Moon Goddess, una delle mie compagne di viaggio nel Japan Textile Tour. Partecipo raramente a queste cose, come tutti mi dico che tanto non vinco mai, però se non partecipo è ovvio che io non vinca.

L’email che annunciava la vincita mi era arrivato che ero ancora in California, e per essere onesta con lo scombussolamento del viaggio me n’ero pure dimenticata. ‘Ho un pacco per te’ mi ha detto il mio vicino quando sono rientrata dalla spesa lunedì. Ho guardato la busta: ‘Dubai!’

I am talking about the giveaway orginised by Moon Goddess, one of my travel companions in the Japan Textile Tour. I rarely take part to these giveaways because as anyone else I tell myself that I am never going to win. But if I do not take part, it is obvious that I will not win.
The email announcing the winning reached me when I still was in California, and to be honest with the upheaval of the return trip, I had completely forgotten. ‘I have a parcel for you’  said my neighbour when I came back from shopping last Monday. I looked at the parcel: ‘Dubai!’.


Ero naturalmente piena di curiosità perché Cynthia mi sembra una persona molto interessante. Se guardate il suo blog la frase di apertura recita: ‘Il mondo è un libro, e coloro che non viaggiano ne leggono solo una pagina’ (Sant’Agostino). Cynthia scrive libri, viaggia e addirittura ha preso con la sua famiglia due anni di pausa per navigare nei mari del mondo.
Dopo 3 buste una più saldamente chiusa della precedente…

Of course I was full of curiosity because Cynthia seems to me a very interesting person. On the opening page of her blog you can read this: ‘The world is a book, and those who do not travel, read only a page.’ (Saint Augustine). Cynthia is a book writer, a traveler and with her family took a 2 years pause to sail the seas of this world.
After 3 envelopes, each more tightly sealed than the previous one…




Il libro è una delizia perché è un insieme di storia familiare e di indicazioni di base su come eseguire i quilt (mi piace in particolare il capitolo sulla tecnica dell’appliqué). Inoltre  suggerisce come utilizzare i disegni in altro modo, per esempio per abbellire un grembiule da cucina) e dà ben 11 ricette di biscotti, tutte ricette di famiglia, amate e tramandate.
Insomma, in questo libro tutto è bello ed utile. Molte grazie, dunque: il desiderio di incontrare Cynthia ora è ancora maggiore.

The book is a true delight because it is a combination of family history and basic quiltmaking (I particularly love the chapter on the technique of appliqué). Moreover you will find suggestions on how to use the patterns in another way, for instance to decorate an apron) and 11 cookies recipes, all of them beloved and passed down in the family.
In conclusion, everything in this book is beautiful and helpful. Therefore many thanks: the wish to meet Cynthia is even stronger now.
