Avanzi - ‘Leftovers’

Un anno fa circa ho cominciato a lavorare degli avanzi di lana in una semplice coperta. di quelle che si tengono sul divano e ci si buttano sulle gambe mentre si guarda la televisione.

Non so da dove venissero tutti questi avanzi sul nero, grigio e rosso. Un tempo accettavo lana da chiunque avesse frugato nei propri armadi e ne fosse riemerso con sacchetti di lana. Poi ho letto uno spaventoso post di una che così facendo si è ritrovata la casa piena di tarme, e da allora, a malincuore, rifiuto ogni dono per quanto generoso.

About one year ago I started knitting leftover wool into a simple blanket, one of those afghans that you keep on the couch to cover your knees when watching tv.

I have no idea where all those black, grey and red leftovers came from. There was a time in which I accepted wool from everyone that going through her cupboards would come up with a bag of the stuff. Then I read a terrific post about someone that because of that had her place infested by cloth moths and since then I reluctantly refuse any gift, although generous.

Seconda figlia mi ha dato una mano, con l’unico problema che lei lavora una maglia stretta e molto densa. Sicché alla fine i quadrati risultano di diversa consistenza.

Potete vedere che abbiamo usato il principio del ‘log cabin’: è facile e d’effetto.
Ma come spesso succede in un progetto del genere, un bel giorno gli avanzi sono finiti ed ho dovuto comprare lana nuova!

Second daughter helped with the knitting, the only problem being that she knits very tightly while my knitting is much loser. Therefore in the end the squares resulted of a different weight.

As you can see we used the ‘log cabin’ method: it is simple and pleasant.
As often it happens with projects like this one, a day came in which we finished the leftovers and I had to buy new wool!



Un altro piccolo progetto a cui sto lavorando: un paio di calzini, anche questi di avanzi, ma in questo caso la lana non mi manca davvero.
Another little project on which I am working: a pair of socks but in this case I will certainly not run out of wool.
