Pasqua a Milano - ‘Easter in Milan’

Seconda Figlia ed io abbiamo fatto una scappata a Milano per celebrare la Pasqua con prima Figlia ed il suo ragazzo. Hanno appena traslocato in una deliziosa palazzina Liberty, quindi è stata anche l’occasione di vedere il nuovo appartamento, portando ovviamente ricchi e abbondanti doni.

Second Daughter and I briefly went to Milan to celebrate Easter with First daughter and her boyfriend. They just moved into a delightful Liberty building, therefore it has been the occasion to have a look at the new flat, bringing, it goes without saying, rich and abundant gifts.


Del Liberty a Milano ho già parlato, ogni volta scopro edifici che non avevo mai visti prima, come questi, non lontano da dove mia figlia è andata ad abitare. Qui ci sono decine e decine di putti che danzano e ridono…

   


I already spoke about the Liberty movement in Milan, every time I find buildings that I hadn’t seen before, like these, not far from where my daughter is now living. Here there are dozens and dozens of little angels dancing and laughing…




...mentre questa palazzina è interamente ricoperta di piastrelle con figure e tralci di fiori.

Abbiamo passeggiato per il centro guardando le vetrine dei negozi. A me pare che a Milano siano più creativi e più fantasiosi, insomma che osino di più anche per quanto riguarda l’allestimento delle vetrine, come avevo notato lo scorso settembre.
 


We walked downtown looking at the windows of the shops. it seems to me that in Milan there is more creativity and imagination, as I noticed last september.

Se cercate un’idea per la primavera, quest’anno sono di moda scarpe coloratissime ed altissime. Se non riuscite a camminarci come me siete decisamente ‘out’. (Ma, Signora, sono COSì comode!)

   


If you are looking for an idea for next Spring, very coloured and very high shoes are in fashion this year. If you are like me and can not walk in them, you are definitely ‘out’. (Oh, Madam, they are SO comfortable!)


Meglio ripiegare su una semplice gonna, riccamente ricamata con elementi di plastica. Non voglio sapere cosa succede quando una si siede!

It is better to fall back on a simple skirt, richly embroidered with application of plastic. I do not want to know what happens when you sit down!

















Però lo ammetto: con un paio di scarpe così la mia bella figura la farei anche io.
I have to admit it: with shoes like these, I would make quite an impression myself.

Pasqua tra poco - ‘Easter in no time’

Ho una magnifica collezione di uova, fatte di materiali diversi e raccolte in molte parti del mondo.
Non l’ho più tirata fuori da tre anni a questa parte per una serie di vari motivi, ma sopratutto perché è in cantina, chissà dove. Ma una Pasqua senza uova non è una Pasqua che si rispetti e dunque sulla scia dei miei recenti esperimenti di tintura ho deciso di colorare sei uova vere con tinture 'eco'.

Questa ha fatto ridere un’amica di mia figlia che proviene da una famiglia dove tutto si compra. Non sa cosa si perde, la magia della sperimentazione, la curiosità della novità e la creazione di qualcosa di unico. Ed anche quel senso di soddisfazione personale che deriva dallo sganciarsi dalle mode temporanee, dal consumismo sfrenato, dilagante e diffuso.
Una forma di snobismo? Forse, ma da ieri pomeriggio mi pare che le mie sei uova mi sorridano beate.

I have a magnificent collection of eggs, made of different materials and coming from many countries of the world.
It hasn’t seen the light in the last 3 years for one reason or the other, the main one being that it is in a box in a cellar, who knows where.But Easter without eggs is not really Easter therefore following my recent experimentation with dyeing I decided to colour 6 real eggs with 'eco' dyes.. 


This was found very amusing by one of Second Daughter’s friends, a girl coming from a family who buys everything. She doesn’t know what she is loosing, the magic of experimentation, the curiosity of something new and the creation of something unique. And also that feeling of very personal satisfaction coming from getting off the hook of temporary fashions, wild, spread and prevailing consumerism.
A kind of snobbery? Maybe, but after yesterday afternoon it seems to me that the eggs are happily smiling to me.



Cipolle rosse e cipolle dorate, quest’ultime non le avevo mai usate e sono rimasta deliziata dalla calda tonalità che producono. Non ho resistito ed insieme alle uova ho fatto bollire del filo di cotone precedentemente mordenzato.

Red onions and golden ones, I had never used the latter and I was delighted by the warm shade that they produce. I didn’t resist and together with the eggs I boiled some already mordanted cotton thread.
 

Pasqua tempo di agnello, e se si è stufi del solito arrosto, quale miglior modo di prepararlo che provare una tajine secondo la ricetta che Annabella ha scritto quando è stata ospite di Karen? Credetemi, vale la pena, per quanto io abbia omesso le olive ed il pomodoro. Ho anche potuto usare, un po’ in anticipo veramente, i limoni di cui vi avevo parlato.

Easter is also a time to eat lamb and if you are bored with the old roast, nothing better than prepare a tajine following the recipe that Annabella wrote when she was a guest on Karen’s blog? Believe me, it is worthwhile even if I omitted olives and tomatoes. I could use, a little beforehand to say the truth, the preserved lemons of which I spoke to you. 




Ultimo non ultimo, come si dice, una sbirciatina ad un quadrato patchwork che sto facendo per un gruppo in cui sono stata invitata ad entrare e del quale vi parlerò molto presto. Ho una scadenza da rispettare ma sarò in Giappone, così questa è un’altra cose da concludere prima della partenza.

Last but not least, as the saying goes, a sneak peek of a block that I am making for a group that I was invited to join and of which I will talk to you quite soon. I have a deadline to honour but I will be in Japan and this is another thing to finish before I leave.
