
La cioccolata di Modica ha una curiosa storia, in quanto pare che la ricetta per prepararla sia stata portata in Sicilia dai soldati spagnoli nel XIV secolo che a loro volta l’avrebbero imparata dagli Aztechi. Un’amica che si interessa di cucina mi ha detto aver trovato un prodotto simile in Guatemala.
It happened to me to meet in a Fair a nice couple coming from Modica from whom I bought not only the very special and delightful gritty chocolate, but also Almond Paste.
The chocolate from Modica has a curious story since apparently the recipe was brought to Sicily by Spanish soldiers in the 16th century who had learned about it from the Aztecs. A friend who is an expert in cooking told me that she found a similar product in Guatemala.

The recipe of Blancmange was written on the card box, a very old dessert whose origin is lost in time, but certainly of Arab origin. It was very popular in the Middle Age, at that time it also contained white meats of chicken or fish, not more used from the 1700.

Nella mia ricerca di notizie ho appreso l’esistenza di un gruppo musicale attivo agli inizi degli anni ‘80 chiamato proprio Blancmange. Non si finisce mai di imparare!
I made this delicious cake, it has the flavour of times gone by, like the Diplomt Pudding or the Charlotte. It is unbelievable to see how the taste changes and how certain once fashionable gastronomic preparations are forgotten relegated into the past.
In my research I found that there was a band called Blancmange that was active at the beginnig of the 80ties. There is always an occasion to learn something new!
